Trap Door Theatre Posters
Poster design and photography for Chicago's cutting-edge theatre.
Minna
A modern commentary on the enlightment period.
12 Ophelias:
A Play With Broken Songs

The typography for this poster was shot under water to complement Ophelia's story.
A Couple of Poor,
Polish-speaking Romanians

After taking the photos i searched for old typewriter keys to use for the title. The mechanical eyes are made of brakes from a souped up Acura.
The Unconquered
Heavy political satire and lighthearted comedy that ends in suicide. best... client... ever!
No Darkness Round my Stone
My first time working with Max Truax as the director. He wanted the poster to look like photographs of dead people from Victorian times. This play had a different, more introverted feel than any other poster i worked on, and fortunately it shows in the final design.
Eva Peron
Created in a London hotel, while i was searching for a place to live and dealing with my bank account being cleared out due to identity theft. A very european situation leading to a definite european aesthetic.
Alice in Bed
A tripped out "falling down the rabbit hole" concept.
Emma
In the play, the umbrella was a symbol of social structure, which although provides a feeling of security, does not protect the individual in any way.
Horses at the Window
A para-military collage of all the characters in the play.
The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant
The difficulty here was that a poster for Fassbinder's film of the same name already existed. A different approach was needed, and in the end, Beata Pilch, one of the directors, decided that an outside shot was a great contrast to the agoraphobic story.
Request Programme
This fantastic play centered on two hours of a single woman's life. There was no dialogue, only one actress, and a hyper-realistic set of a studio apartment. For the poster, the actress was painted in gold paint, and photographed as a sculpture. The round halo symbol is made of sewing needles.
The Fourth Sister
My very first poster design for the Trap Door Theatre. Since the play was about Russians, the symbol is made of small babushka dolls.
