New Works: Trap Door, The New Jackson Hotel and Collaboraction

The past few months have been very busy. While much of the focus fell on the production and editing of the movie The New Jackson Hotel, there is also a new poster for the Trap Door's production of Minna, and a card for a new client, Collaboraction, a theatre and performance group in Chicago. The card is another successful collaboration with Johnny Mei, and is one of the first pieces that uses outside photography. There are more projects in the works, a large print project, and possibly a new short film. Come back often, and as always, write me, as I am very lonely...
New Jackson Hotel Filming Continues

The latest film project, New Jackson Hotel, gained fantastic additions to the cast and crew. Kevin Lucero Less (who is a company member at the Trap Door Theatre) will lend his voice as the narrator. Dustin Grove, who has many short films to his name, will costar along with Kathryne Starzec, Savva Krupnov, Holly Ulasovich, Rob Kerr, and Joannie Wu. Matthew Terdich, an uber-talented designer based in Switzerland designed the logo. Rob Kerr also composed a short music piece, and Jason Ackley who composed the score to the Center on Halsted video tentatively signed up to score a part of the movie. This is by far one of the most exciting things I've worked on. Expect a trailer in the next update.
New Jackson Hotel

A new movie is in the works. Based on a real story, it is being filmed around Chicago with the help of many talented people selflessly volunteering to be tied up naked in my hallway, smoke lots of cigarettes and cut apart fish. Collaborators so far include Rob Kerr, Savva Krupnov, Holly Ulasovich and Joannie Wu. I am still shooting footage/editing and thinking about the soundtrack.
Center on Halsted Video

Happy to say that I have completed a video project to raise awareness for the Center on Halsted, a GLBT community outreach group. This was a whole ton of fun, and a huge learning experience. Nathan Harris, the director of individual giving at the center came up with the text, and my colleague Jason Ackley provided the score. I think it turned out very well! See it in the work section here: We Find Our Center.
Poster for the "Good 50x70" competition to be exhibited in Milan

My poster design for the Good 50x70 Competition is one of the winning entries, and will be exhibited at the Triennale Design Museum in Milan. Anyone can enter the competition, and all the selected entries are available for use by a group of non-profit organizations. Although we do not live in Switzerland where they have posters for every little thing, it would be great to see some of the entries put up in the US. I focused on the decriminalization of HIV, and during research, I found out that if you are HIV-positive, you cannot gain permanent residency in the United States. Even though creating a poster can feel terribly impotent when dealing with such serious issues, I hope that by creating or looking at something, we can become more aware of the sometimes strange and outdated laws that surround us, and eventually work towards changing them... See the poster here: HIV Awareness. (Update: the law prohibiting visitors with HIV to the United States was recently repealead!)
